knock knee vs bow knee

2011. 8. 2. 17:13physio

Knock knees (genu valgum) is condition when legs have deformity inward of natural legs position.
Bow legs (genu varum) is condition when legs have deformity outward of natural legs position.
Leg axe    Bow legs and Knock knee

postural bow legs - combination of medial rotation of femur, pronation of the feet, hyperextension of knee
                               - marked medial rotation femur in relation to tibia(↓Rt. L/E of 2nd. fig.)
                               - posterolateral displacement of the tibia(↓2nd. fig.)
                               - increased varus and medial rotation of femur during single-leg standing(↓last fig.)

decreased medial rotation of the femur when activating the pelvic girdle lateral rotator muscles during single-leg stand

hip anterversion(→ 과도한 hip medial rotation으로 인해 knock knee로 변형 → Q-angle 증가)

hip retroversion
